Specialised Services We Offer

Cardiovascular Health:
Preventive and complimentary medicines are used to reduce risk factors associated with cardiovascular conditions.

Children’s Health:
Children and babies have special health requirements. These distinct requirements change as they go through the different stages of the development process. Exposure to poor diet, toxicity, infections, nutritional insufficiency, vaccination and structural problems can lead to dysfunction of the gastrointestinal, immune and nervous systems.

Colic & Reflux:
Colic is due to spasms in the baby’s intestinal muscle, causing abdominal cramps. Symptoms may include crying, fretting, flatulence, burping, and difficulty in settling.

Reflux is characterised by frequent vomiting, irritability before or after feeds, need for constant moving as well as coughing or choking during feeds.

There are a number of factors that may be causing your baby to experience colic or reflux. If your baby is breastfed, the mother’s diet should be investigated for possible allergens or food intolerances. Alternatively, if your baby is formula fed it may be that your baby has an intolerance to the formula or may have lowered gut flora.

Eczema or Dermatitis:
Eczema is a skin condition characterised by papules, especially around the knees and elbows (occurs on other parts of body also) and can lead to bouts of itching & weeping. There are two main factors that are causes for your child’s eczema, and these are food sensitivity/allergy & compromised digestion.

Treatment involves testing for food sensitivities, application of anti-inflammatory creams/baths and improvement of digestion by the use of herbal medicines. This usually gives long term lasting relief.

Hyperactivity or Attention Deficit Disorder:
Hyperactivity or Attention Deficit Disorders are associated with mood swings, emotional changes, co-ordination difficulties, short-term attention span, destructive behaviour, lack of perseverance, poor concentration, memory and thinking challenges as well as specific learning difficulties. These characteristics are frequently associated with learning and behavioural difficulties, especially at school.

Food sensitivities, artificial colour and flavours, sucrose and excessive phosphate ingestion are the primary contributing factors to ADHD. Diagnosis can be gained through a case history, blood test, Hemaview and/or iridology. Treatment of ADHD involves educating the parent about why their child is experiencing these difficulties and aims to rectify the problem long-term using elimination diets, herbal medicine and supplementation.

Allergies & Asthma:
Asthma is a condition characterised by coughing, wheezing and difficulty breathing.
There are three main triggers with this condition. Triggers may include;
Food sensitivities/allergy, Environmental factors, emotional changes, food cravings and poor or excessive appetite.
Treatment and management of these conditions will include supporting the immune system and addressing any emotional triggers.

Recurring ear, nose and throat infections
:
Does your child suffer from ear, nose and throat complaints (E.N.T)? This condition is more common in children who have immature upper respiratory systems and/or an over production of mucus.

Treatment will involve educating both parent and child on the underlying cause of these conditions and aims to strengthen your child’s immune system to avoid reoccurrences.

Worm Treatments:
We offer safe and effective natural solutions to worming. Symptoms of worms being present may include frustration, anger, and irritability. We use urine test to diagnose this conditions and offer a variety of positive treatments.

Detoxification:
The detoxification of your body is an important part of keeping healthy. Everyday lifestyle is enough to overload the body’s detoxification process. Each organ has a specific job to do and when not working effectively may cause health challenges.

Contributing factors: busy lifestyle, consumption of fast foods, not enough time to prepare meals, lack of motivation, loss of passion for food and reduced taste sensation. Excessive use of refined sugars and saturated fats can cause a build-up of toxins, increasing symptoms of fatigue, tiredness, headaches, cravings and skin problems.

Digestive Health:
A healthy digestive tract is important to the optimal health of every cell in the body. The blood stream transports all nutrients absorbed from the intestines that have not being stopped by the gut’s immune function.
80% of our immunity occurs in the gut. If the lining of the gut is impaired or damaged (see causes of digestive impairment below) the immune system is compromised. The gut destroys pathogens (negative bugs) before it enters the blood stream.
If pathogens cascade into the blood stream placing additional pressure on the immune system, this process can stimulate many disease states. An overactive immune system can lead to a hypersensitive reaction to foods commonly called allergies. Treating the gut will reduce allergenic symptoms and balance the immune response without over reacting to foods.

Causes of digestive impairment:

  • Overeating
  • Eating before the previous meal is completely digested
  • Drinking iced drinks often (especially before or during meals)
  • Eating spicy, pungent, hot or sour foods regularly
  • Overuse of alcohol
  • Eating ‘on the run’
  • Eating at irregular times
  • Eating heavy meals at night
  • Frequent travel (flying, or long car journeys)
  • Skipping meals
  • Infection and infestation, e.g., gastroenteritis, Giardia and other parasites, candidiasis.
  • Low levels of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacteria adolescentis)
  • Food allergies or sensitivities
  • Nutrient deficiencies, e.g., zinc, iron, vitamin A
  • Constant physical, emotional or mental stress
  • Medications: antibiotics (even when used for as little as one day), Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAID’s)
  • Insufficient protein in the diet
  • Increased demand for protein owing to: trauma, surgery, excessive exercise, illness, prolonged fasting, too little fibre in the diet
  • Ageing

Men’s Health:
Prostate enlargement IPSS test
Assessing prostate symptoms with the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) is a benchmark test for prostatic health and should be filled out by all men. By filling in this form, you can help your practitioner to assess if you have an enlarged prostate, and how badly it is affecting you. An enlarged prostate is a common and usually benign (non-cancerous) condition that often occurs in older men. The results do not help to diagnose prostate cancer only tell us whether the prostate is enlarged or not. To request test please contact the clinic. Make an appointment

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia:

Symptoms and signs:
Voiding (to excrete body wastes) symptoms: decreased calibre of the stream, hesitancy, intermittency, straining and incomplete emptying. Storage symptoms such as urgency, frequency, nocturia, dysuria (difficult or painful urination) and urge incontinence. However these symptoms can also relate to bladder muscle changes, especially in older men

Prostatitis:

Inflammation of the prostate gland symptoms & signs:
Fever and chills
Pain in lower back or rectum
Urinary symptoms
Relapsing urinary tract infections
Painful urination or other voiding problems
Genital pain

Chronic pelvic pain syndrome:
This may present with a nonbacterial prostatitis inflammation without any evidence of infection. Urinary symptoms such as difficult or painful urination

One of the most consumed substances by men is beer. The high amount of oestrogens in beer promotes prostatic problems. Other side effects of oestrogens overdose are flabby pecks (pectoralis major) or ‘man boobs’.

Male Infertility:
Recent research indicates defective sperm function is largely responsible for human infertility. Male reproductive function is highly sensitive to environment chemicals generated in industry or agriculture. The following treatment suggestions should be considered.
  • Start treatment 6-12 months prior to conception
  • Test for heavy metal and gut health levels
  • Prepare gut for detox and start detox program
  • Increase zinc intake, to improve sperm mobility

Natural Fertility:
When a couple has been having unprotected intercourse two or three times per week for a year or more without achieving pregnancy, one or both of the partners may be infertile. Contributing factors are: irregular or absent menstrual periods; two or more miscarriages; history of pelvic infection, or chronic pelvic pain; long term use of contraceptive pill; history of sexually transmitted disease; Endometriosis Polycystic Ovarian Disease. Positive pregnancy programs are available for couples who are having trouble with achieving a successful pregnancy. Make an appointment

Natural Hormone Therapy:

Menopause refers to the time in a women’s life when a series of hormonal changes brings the menstrual cycle to a conclusion. Ovulation no longer occurs and the menstrual periods cease. Premenopausal symptoms usually begin in women in their forties, however may start as early as thirty or as late as sixty. Variables such as race, heredity, health status, diet and level of physical activity, may influence the way a women experiences menopause. Symptoms may include:
Hot flushes, night flushes, mood swings, incontinence, increased risk of osteoporosis, high cholesterol & blood pressure, dry skin. Are these symptoms controlling your life? We can assist in making this hormonal transition a more positive experience using herbal medicine, supplementation, dietary and lifestyle advice.

Cervical Dysplasia:

This is the beginning of cervical cancer as indicated by a pap smear. If you have a positive indication, you are usually told by a doctor to wait 3 months before further tests, and that there is no treatment available. However we can work with you during that waiting period, to treat with diet and herbal medicines, along with a positive lifestyle plan—giving you a much greater chance of recovery, than simply waiting.

Pregnancy & Infant Health:

There are certain things that can be done to ensure that you are in the best health, that your pregnancy, labour and postnatal experiences are as successful as they can be, and that your baby is beautiful, bright and healthy.

Pregnancy:

As your body takes the journey of pregnancy there are a number of factors to consider. As a parent/mother-to-be you are in a privileged position to enable your baby to reach their full potential through correct implementation of diet and lifestyle. We have developed The Positive Pregnancy Program that is designed to provide you with guidance and advice on nutrition, relaxation and exercise.

Morning sickness:

Where there is an increase in hormonal activity, increasing nausea and vomiting. Digestive and liver support during this time will decrease the severity of this sickness.

Cravings:

Can occur during pregnancy and are an indication of a nutritional deficiency. The deficiency may be one or more of the following; calcium, magnesium, chromium, iron, and/or zinc.

Preconception Care:

You may be surprised to learn that your diet, lifestyle and environment prior to conception all have a direct and profound bearing on your reproductive health and the health of your baby. Put simply, preconception care involves making sure that there is adequate supply of all those factors which are essential to the health of the ova and to the foetal development, and an absence of all those things which have been shown to be harmful. Make an appointment

In preparation for pregnancy, it is recommended that a female cease use of the contraceptive pill at least six months before conception. The pill leaves most women deficient in many nutrients (B1, B2, B6, C, folic acid & zinc) and therefore need to be replaced to ensure optimal health of mother and baby. We will provide you with a program, using nutrition, herbal medicine, supplementation and lifestyle suggestions to enable you to reach optimal health before conception.

Things to give up:
Alcohol appears to have a direct effect on chromosomes, and its ingestion may be a major contributing factor in many miscarriages. Alcohol is also passed through the breast milk to your baby. The ill effects are similar to those in the adult.

Smoking:

Smokers have seriously compromised nutritional status. Nicotine decreases the flow of blood to the placenta and reduces uptake of nutrients, leading to foetal growth retardation.

Caffeine:

Caffeine is present in tea, coffee, cola drinks, medicines, chocolate and some foods. Caffeine has harmful effects on every aspect of reproductive health. Ingestion of this chemical has been associated with an increased rate of spontaneous abortion or congenital abnormalities.

Stress:

Constant levels of unresolved stress during pregnancy affects the later personality and behaviour of the child. We will provide you with tools to manage your stress using counselling, meditation and Reiki .

Post Pregnancy Support:

Breastfeeding: Make an appointment
Breast milk is the food designed by nature for your baby. It is certainly best for your baby’s health, as it is easily digested and less likely to cause constipation and diarrhoea. It also contains antibodies to protect your baby and needs no preparation or storage. Breastfeeding gives warmth, comfort and security to the baby. If you are experiencing difficulties in producing enough milk for your baby or difficulty with mastitis, we can provide you with herbal and nutritional support to increase milk production, the quality of your milk and reduce inflammation. Is your baby satisfied with the quality of your milk? Signs of low quality milk are; not lasting long between feeds, not sleeping for more than two hours and restlessness. Zinc and other vital nutrients are dramatically decreased during the birthing process and restoring adequate levels of these nutrients is imperative in maintaining a balanced outlook on motherhood.

Sleep and Energy:

New mothers have to adapt to much less sleep than they are used to. 10-20 minutes a day of meditation is equivalent to 1-2 hours sleep.

Constipation:

Maintaining regular bowel movement is important for the health of mother and baby.

Low energy:

As your baby grows your body has a higher requirement of nutrients and rest than normal.

Emotions:

In the miraculous transformation of pregnancy your hormone levels are greatly affected. This is often the reason why women experience mood fluctuations.

Leg cramps:

Are indications of a mineral imbalance.

Women’s Health:

Women’s bodies go through an amazing transformation from puberty to menopause. Environmental factors such as our diet, lifestyle and our relationships, all impact on the intricate balance of your hormones. Make an appointment
